OMG it's TOMORROW!!
I can't believe just how fast this pregnancy has gone. But at the same time I feel like I've been preggo forever! You know you are close to the end when the time for a baby shower rolls around and you've begun those baby classes everyone tells you that you need to attend.
This past week Dood and I went to our first Birth and Babies class offered by the local health region. I think I am going to enjoy it but I feel like the instructor just likes to hear her own voice some times. Maybe it's just the hormones.
Back to the task at hand: baby shower.
I'm throwing one for myself. Most of my friends are moms (some newer than others) so I didn't really want to ask someone to spend all the time that is required in putting off an event such as this. I've sent out the invites and got quite a few people RSVP through my website. Now that I have an idea of how many will be attending I have gotten to work. Today was spent shopping for food and supplies. Tomorrow will be spent finishing the food and doing a bit of cleaning. I'm one of those crazy gals who is super organized so I have a spreadsheet with tasks and who will be completing each of them. My feet are tired and I'm super sleepy but I still have lots to do.
Food:
Cupcakes (homemade)
Doody Balls (chocolate cheesecake bites)
Mini cinnamon rolls
Fruit and yogurt
Veggies and dip
Chips and guacamole
Regular chips
Spinach dip and bread
Activity:
Design a onesie (I bought a bunch of onesies and fabric paint)
Make a wish (one for each guest for each year. Write your wishes for the baby on the assigned birthday)
Favours:
"About Ready To POP!" soda and popcorn. I created these labels and put them on little bottles of Chubby soda. I originally wanted Jones but I wasn't about to find it at the two stores I checked. Then I gave up and thought Chubby cola is quite appropriate. I then got these baby foot print bags from the Bulk Barn and made some caramel popcorn to put in the bags I got from Wal-Mart. I love that you can get Christmas gift bags after Christmas for 75% off and they don't look like Christmas bags at all. They are actually wine bags and I got two for 25 cents. Not too shabby.
Decorations:
I used table cloths from the dollar store in the colors I chose as the theme for the shower and cut them length-wise. Then I used painter's tape and stuck them to the ceiling. Then in the centre I made a few tissue paper pom poms also from the dollar store. It hides the tape for the most part and I created them in the same colors as the table cloths. I think it looks pretty good. I also had some twirly things left over from another party that (ta-da!) is in the same two colors: lime green and blue. I really like this color combination so I have used it in the nursery and I thought, what the heck, I may as well create a color theme for the shower too. I originally planning to hang the onesies on a clothes line but I really didn't want to put a hole in my ceiling or wall so I just put them into a container that guests can go through to find the onesie of their choice.
Tomorrow I will be sure to take lots of photos and give you the low-down on all the goings on. I'll show you the finished decorations with links to the place where I got my ideas.
I am really looking forward to seeing the designs that people come up with. I did a practice one tonight and I think it looks pretty good. Honestly, it's for the fun of it and I'm going to make sure this child wears each one of these. I plan to also take photos tomorrow when people are done so I can remember who designed what. Since I have a few extra I will also design another one or two myself. I think I ended up with about 23 and there are 17 confirmed guests including myself. Maybe I will see if Dood wants to design one.
At this very moment I just remembered the foot bath salt a friend gave me for Christmas that is oh so good for my pregnant feet. I know, it's not just my feet that are pregnant but some days it feels like it is. Today is one of those days. I need to rest now to make sure I have enough energy for the day tomorrow. My goal is to not fall asleep and snore loudly (Dood reminds me of just how loud each morning) during the shower. One of my guests is my massage therapist/magical pain banisher. She is as magical as a unicorn farting rainbows. She agreed to give me my second treatment tomorrow after the shower. I am really looking forward to that.
I'm going to go soak my aching feet and fall asleep while trying not to choke on my own tongue. Pregnancy is beautiful but it ain't always pretty!

Jen,
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing!!:) You have done such a great job with documenting your pregnancy. It will truly be the best keepsake that you have. You will be able to revisit at anytime, as well as pass it onto your little bundle of joy. What a fantastic way to keep your family and friends from back home up to date. It's been an enjoyable and entertaining experience! By the way, Alyssa and I had a great time at your shower; the doody balls were everything you said they would be.......delicious!
Thanks!:)
Debbie
Thanks Debbie. I'm also journaling to the baby throughout the pregnancy. Most of my friends have told me that they can't remember certain details as time passes but I wanted to capture everything in one place. I've put some photos in there as well. It's actually the book that I asked people at the shower to put their names and addresses in.
DeleteI'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the Doody Balls. They are always a hit. Maybe I will go on that show Recipes to Riches and see if I can win :)
